| A grant of arms has been made for
IMC by the Garter King of Arms,
signified by a coat of arms. A coat of
arms contains a number of features
relating to the Hospital.
|
| The shield shows a blue ground with
a silver pale carrying a crown to
signify the excellence of the
Hospital, with a mortar and pestle
above and below to show the medical
nature of the business. On the blue
ground are two gold crowns flanking
the central crown signifying
excellence in medicine and surgery.
|
| Set on top of the helm above the
shield is a gold crown set upon a
grassy mound. This is taken from the
arms of the Royal Borough of
Kensington and Chelsea, a reference to
the Hospital's location. Either side
of the crown are sprays of foxglove or
Digitalis sp., the medicinal plant
which is a source of digitalis, the
drug used in cardiology and other
disciplines. From the crest flows a
foreshortened mantle in blue and gold,
surrounding the shield. |
